Experiential teams make sensory decisions all the time.

They choose the light, the scent, the sound, the density, the material, the air, the temperature, and the path through the room. These choices affect whether people pause, move, buy, talk, photograph, return, or leave.

But sensory decisions are often discussed as taste.

Someone liked the room. Someone thought it felt premium. Someone said the line moved better. Someone noticed the product area felt warmer. The memory is useful, but it rarely becomes a repeatable operating record.

This project explores a sensory understanding workflow that connects environmental conditions to guest behavior.

This project is closest to event attention heatmaps, because both ask what people did in the room, and to weather-triggered media, because live conditions can shape both the experience and the message around it.

The repeated job

The team wants to know whether a sensory choice changed the experience.

Maybe the scent made the room feel warmer. Maybe humidity affected dwell time. Maybe a cooler product area increased sampling. Maybe a different atmosphere changed what people purchased.

Without a measurement workflow, these observations become anecdotes.

What the agent needs to know

The agent needs condition data, event timing, floor context, scent plan, temperature and humidity readings, dwell observations, survey notes, and purchase or sampling data.

It also needs the limits of the measurement.

A sensory agent should not pretend that one variable explains everything. Event behavior is shaped by crowd flow, staffing, placement, weather, time of day, queue length, music, offer, and product fit. The agent's job is to organize evidence, not overclaim certainty.

The workflow

The team defines the sensory condition it wants to test. The agent helps structure the observation plan and then aligns the collected signals by time and location.

After the event, the agent summarizes what changed, what behavior moved with it, and which parts of the evidence are strong, weak, or inconclusive.

The output is not only a metric. It is a recommendation the next producer or strategist can use.

What gets measured

The first proof point is behavior change: purchases, samples, dwell, survey response, or another agreed signal.

The second proof point is confidence: whether the evidence is strong enough to guide a future design choice.

The third proof point is reuse: whether the finding becomes part of the team's sensory playbook.

This research direction should be evaluated against a pre-agreed behavioural signal, with the environmental condition, timing, and competing variables documented. Alderson should not publish a causal result until the measurement design and evidence support it.

Why this matters

The live world is full of variables software teams usually ignore.

Experiential marketing cannot be understood only through clicks, impressions, or post-event photos. The physical environment matters.

A sensory understanding agent gives the team a way to remember what the room did, not just what it looked like.
